WELL READ is looking for submissions from writers and artists who have stories to tell – through words and art. We combine new and established voices from diverse backgrounds and celebrate different perspectives. We want people who aren’t afraid to shake things up, speak their mind, and share their humanity.

Prose

Contributors should include only one short story or essay per submission. Please submit one short story or essay up to 6,000 words in length. All work must be typed (preferably in 12 point, Times New Roman), double-spaced, and paginated. Include the title of your work, which genre it falls under (fiction, creative fiction, non-fiction) in the subject line of the email and the total word count on your manuscript.

Flash Fiction

Contributors should include only one piece of flash fiction per submission. Please submit one flash fiction piece up to 1,000 words in length. All work must be typed (preferably in 12 point, Times New Roman), double-spaced, and paginated. Include the title of your work and the total word count on your manuscript.

Poetry

Contributors should include only one poem per submission.  All work must be typed (preferably in 12 point, Times New Roman), and single-spaced (not including stanza breaks). Include the title of your work on your manuscript. Please attach your submission in a word document or pdf.

Visual Art

Contributors may include up to four photographs, four pieces of digital art, or images of four pieces of original art per submission. Please only send us one submission per reading period. The acceptable file types are JPEG, PNG, or PDF.

How to submit:

Please compose the subject line of your e-mail as:  Submission Title and Genre.

With each submission, please include a brief – 3rd person – author bio (60 words or less) and high res author photo to be used if your submission is accepted.

We are very excited to publish first time unpublished authors, but previously published works are accepted for this project AS LONG as you own the rights. Authors who are published in WELL READ retain all rights to their work.

Submissions published in WR’s online magazine may also be published in the annual print version of WELL READ’s BEST OF anthologies at the beginning of the upcoming year. WELL READ cannot offer payment for publication at this time but will proudly promote you and your work on all of the social media sites, in the magazine, and on the WELL READ website.

All submissions will be read with enthusiasm and notified as soon as possible.

There is no submission/reader fee.
